Regional Identity: Interpretation of Brief

As part of the B2 Unit, a brief has been assigned that will outline the parameters in which our project will be based. Briefing is common practice in industry, a method of conveying to a creative team the wants and needs of the client as to better inform the production team going forward.

I can denote many key factors from this excerpt from the given brief. Firstly, the client is listed as 'Sunderland Culture', with this in mind, I can research 'Sunderland Culture': it's ethos, beliefs, policies, and expectations. Understanding and utilising all of these things will better inform my product. Having a reflective look at already existing products that have been made by 'Sunderland Culture' will help me better understand how to format and present my product from a filmmaking or technical sense.

From the "Context" section, we are given context of the subject matter and mode of delivery in which our project will be presented. We are told that our project is to be in like with a greater, multi-media project: 'Who Am I?'. 'Who Am I?' is a very evocative title and thematically has the connotation of identity, which is the given theme for our project. Further information is given about this wider project, in that it will be hosted at the 'National Glass Centre' and the 'Winter Gardens Museum'. Both of these venues are associated with 'Sunderland Culture', our given client.

In the section, "Audience", we are given information about our target audience for this project. In terms of age segmentation, our audience is intended to be younger people aged 16 to 25. Age demographics drastically change the thematic and topical themes of a documentary as age can affect interests and expectations. In terms of generation, 16-25 year olds typically adhere to Generation Z, or Gen Z.

The next slide, "Requirements" goes in to detail to the aspects that are expected by the client to appear in the project, as well as listing a range of formats that the project can be delivered as. Responses can be delivered in a finished piece or a series of more experimental pieces that can be developed piece.

In terms of media format, the brief lists several suits forms that the project can take. These include a short film or documentary or a multimedia campaign, being an advert, print piece or an aural piece. However it is specified that this list is not exclusive and are merely suggestions.

It is also stated that B2 is intended to be a much greater project than A1 or A2 in terms of length. This helps further my understanding of the planning and preparation that should go In to this project.
We now move on to the 'Inspirations' slide, which gives potential talking points.

  • How you look -
  • How you feel -
  • What you like -
  • What you don't like -
  • What you believe in -
  • What you don't believe in -
  • How you think other people see you
  • How you feel about your region
  • What it is to come from this region -
