Regional Identity: Evaluation

Introduction: I have now completed by B2: Regional Identity brief, and will evaluate my process of making the documentary. I will evaluate my strengths and weaknesses, giving myself credit where credit is deserved though will also provide constructive criticism of things I  believe could've been done better during the production. I believe reflective criticism is very important as these are lessons that I can take with me in to the next production I am involved with. Initial Ideas: When formulating my initial ideas, I broke down the brief as to enrich my understanding of the project. From breaking down the brief, I learned much about the client and the mode of delivery that I would have to deliver the project in. In reading the brief - I evaluated my format of delivery as well as garnering an understanding of my target audience which is, as stated by the brief, 16 to 25 year olds. Understanding the Brief Simiarly, in my initial ideas I resear...

Regional Identity: Interview Experimentation:

What is an interview? An interview is a structured conversation where one participant asks questions, and the other provides answers. An interview consists of an interviewer, the person whom asks the questions, and an interviewee, one who answers the questions. The interview is conducted to ask questions and obtain information from the interviewee. An Interviewer is the one who asks questions and an interviewee is who answers the questions. What is different about a documentary interview as opposed to an interview in another form of media?  Interviews are advantageous to include in a documentary as they are a valuable way to present information to the audience in a different format to narrating, as they give perspective and opinion about a given matter which juxtaposes a non-bias objective narration. Interviews are a typical convention in documentary filmmaking. Typically one would interview an interviewee whom has a unique and valuable perspective on the matter or someone who is a...

It is the duty of the producer to document all personnel as so that if any health and safety problems occur - there is a document of everyone on set at the time.  Personnel lists are a good for organizational sense as so that everyone who partook in the production can be properly credited for their contributions  Personal List during Pre-Production: Director of Photography The director of photography (also known as DP or cinematographer) works with the director to design each shot and makes decisions on what lens, filter, and lighting to use to achieve the desired look of the project. Regional Identity: Scriptwriting

What is a script? Documentary filmmakers create non-fiction films (both short films and feature films) that present a truthful storyline in cinematic form. Much like a narrative film, any type of documentary you make will require its own documentary film script. What are the advantages of having a script? 1. CREATE A VISUAL CONCEPT ON PAPER Can you imagine what a major motion picture like The Godfather or Jurassic Park would have been like if they hadn’t created a script first? Movies like these had the context of the characters, the storyline, and the dialogue mapped out long before they began filming. This allowed everyone from the actors to the producers to understand what was expected of them throughout the process. When it comes to using scriptwriting for video production, your business needs to put together a clear idea of what you want to be said in your content. This written concept will create a visual that you can follow from start to finish. 2. FOCUS ON YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE ...

Regional Identity: Equipment/Resource List

What is an equipment/resource list? Why is it important to have an equipment/resource list? It is important to have an equipment list as it ensures you can make sure you can cover all bases as to what electronic equipment you have - as well as what you need to obtain prior to shooting. It avoids the problem of potentially having missing equipment during the production phase - which would be problematic as it would delay shooting dates. Given that I am shooting in accordance to a shooting schedule, this would delay shooting dates thus limiting improvements I can make during post production.

Regional identity: Rationale Feedback and Revised Pitch

Image
Proceeding my presentation that I gave to my class regarding my pitch, I created a Google Form to receive feedback from my peers. Feedback is effective and making a product more suitable to a consumers needs.  Question: What is good about this pitch? I feel like these responses worked to reinforce my stance on the topical matter of my documentary, being based on North East lifestyle, as this appeals the most to my target demographic. Question: What can be improved? I feel like this response is valid, in the sense of working class jobs being the topical focus. I believe many young people aged 16 - 25 in the UK are still in education. I feel like basing the documentary on their experience with education is more relevant to the life of a 16 to 25 year old and is engaging. Revised Pitch: I am making a documentary about how education has been shaped in the North East. This further appeals to the psychographic type of the explorer.
